First Marathon

On the Link below is more pictures of me racing and also a video of me crossing the finish line and they call out my name. Check it out!
So on May 29, 2011 I ran in my first ever Marathon, I ran in the Burlington, VT marathon. The weather has been in the 70s and they were expecting the weather to be in the 80s with thunderstorms. So I went out and bought my self a hat to keep the rain out of my face. Will and the kids dropped me off at the starting line at 7:30am. The race started at 8:03am and it was raining. I for some reason thought that the race started at 8:30am so when Will biked all the kids in the trailer to mile 4 1/2 he missed me by a half hour. So he had to hurry home and then try to meet up with me at a different spot along the race. The rain stopped and it got really hot and very humid. I was not really use to this kind of weather. The first half of the race I ran with two different women and then at mile 10 I took off and ran be my self. At mile 14 Will and the kids saw me and it gave me such a boost. All along the way every person I passed I told them "good job" to give off good mojo. I think it worked! I got to see Will and the kids at 3 more spots down the road and it helped me more and more. There was one spot that they drove passed me and honked and were yelling, it was great! At about mile 16 it really hit me, my hamstring really started to hurt. I kept on running and when I got to mile 21 I felt really good because I had made it past 20 miles. When I got to mile 22 and only had 4 miles left I got a second wind and started passing people. Will and the kids saw me on last time and then they headed to end to meet me. I guess when they were on the way home, Will had all three kids in the bike trailer and with all of them in there it was too much weight. All of a sudden they heard a loud pop sound which they thought someone shot something at them. Turns out in was the bike trailer tire and so Addy and and Carter had to walk home. Luckily it was not that far away from home.

When I entered the last stretch, I so wanted to quit, but I kept on going and with all the people crowed into the finish line cheering us on I ran to the finish line and completed 26.2 miles. My finishing time was 4:55:02. Overall I was 1,861st of 2,410. Out of the 1,029 females that ran it I was 714th. Out of the 30-34 age group there was 183 and I was 148th.

For about 4 day after I was pretty sore, then I was back to normal. I would love to run a marathon with Will one day, I think that running with someone would be a lot more fun. All in all I had a great time and felt pretty good running the race. My hope next time would be that it will be a little cooler.

Great job! I don't think I'll ever have the courage to do a full marathon. That's awesome! Good for you!
