Delaney's Big Day

August 16, 2013
Today Will and I headed to the hospital to have a baby!  My mom came into town a few days ago to be with us and help us out.  We got to the hospital about 6am and they had me already to go by 7am.  The nurses said they couldn't believe I was full term and that this was my 4th kid.  That made me feel pretty good! They started my patosin and Will and I started reading our books while we waited.  When I got up to go to the bathroom my water broke a little and so the doctor looked to see if it was all the way broke, it wasn't so they broke it and noticed that there was meconium in the water.  The contractions started getting harder around noon and so I asked to get an epidural before it got to bad.  The person who did my epidural was a guy in our ward.  When he did my epidural it took a long time.  He stuck the needle in three times and then had someone else try and they even had a hard time getting it in the right spot.  This was the worst epidural I had ever had.  I was in such terrible pain, it was the worst pain I have ever been in.  Will was there holding my hand the whole time.  Will was getting worried about how much pain I was in.  When it was all done I was able to relax and then I started to get a head ache.  It didn't hurt really bad because I was laying down, but then I started feeling a lot of pressure so we called the doctor .  They called the pediatrician because there was meconium in the sack and they wanted them there for the baby if it had any problems.  My doctor came and said I should practice pushing so I did and then they had me push 2 more times and the baby was out!  The doctor then said it was a GIRL!  We were so excited because we thought for sure it was a boy.  Will was able to cut the cord and then they took her to another room to make sure she didn't have poop  in her lungs.  Will went with her.  I got to see her while Will cut the cord and then I didn't see her or touch her for a little while, while they were checking her out.  It took quite a few minutes for her to cry.  I kept waiting and waiting, I started to get a little worried.  I guess Will was a little worried too but then they rubbed her and got her to breath and cry.  Then Will brought her back and I was able to hold her for the first time.  She was so beautiful!  She had dark hair and long fingers and toes.  When she would cry she had this little whimper.  They got me all cleaned up and then Will left and went back home to get my mom and our kids to bring back to the hospital.  After he left they brought be down to another room and by that time my head was killing me.  It hurt to open my eyes and to thing I felt like I wanted to throw up.  The only thing that help a little was to lie down flat.  When the kids came up they were so excited to see the baby.  We didn't have a name yet, but I guess when Will called my mom to let her know we had a baby girl the kids run up and down our street letting everyone know they had a sister.  When they got to tot he room they all got to hold her and then they gave her her first bath.  It was so fun to see how much they loved their little sister.  I wish I could have enjoyed it more but I was in so much pain.  Will took the kids home with my mom and I called him and asked to come back up with someone to give me a blessing.  I knew with a blessing I would be ok.  Will came back up later with one of our friends and gave me a blessing.  I didn't get better right away but I was able to get through the night to the next day.  Will stayed with me those two nights while I was in the hospital and would get up to change the baby and get her out of bed so I didn't really have to move.  Will was such a life saver, he is such a wonderful husband and father to our children.  The baby did really well and would wake up every 3 to 4 hours.  In the morning Will helped me get a shower and dressed.  While I was up I got light headed and threw up.  After that Will talked to the doctor and they started getting me ready for a blood patch to help with my head ache.  So basically when they did my epidural they stuck it in to far and I had a hole in there and when I would sit up or stand up the pressure would be off and make my head hurt.  So to fix it they did another epidural which took a long time again, more and more sticks in my back then then once it was in, they drew blood from my hand and then put that blood in my back through the epidural to help heal it.  After they did the blood patch I had to lay completely still  for an hour and then after that I had to not bend over or carry anything but my baby for 3 weeks or it could tare again and they would have to do it all over again.  Again through this all Will was holding my hands and there for me.  I kept my head down and eyes closed through most of it but once when I opened my eye, and  through my tears I could see I could see the fear and concern and maybe some tears from Will.  This was by far that worst thing I have ever been through in my life.  After a few hours I sat up a little and my head ache was much better, I still had one but it was better.
When we were thinking of girl names we had always like the name Delilah and was pretty sure we would use that name.  But I had looked for other names I liked and wrote them down.  Every time we looked at the baby she didn't really look like a Delilah.  So we went to the list and I had put down Delaney cause I liked the sound of it.  When I told Will the name he really liked it and then we had to come up with a middle name.  We used a name that was on both sides of our families.  The kids new we had really like the name Delilah and so they told everyone that was her name.  So when they came and got me from the hospital and we told them her name was Delaney they were a bit surprised!

 Love these kids!

Addy was so excited to have a sister!  I don't think she is going to let her go!

Delaney held on really tight to Carter her big brother's hands

The kids loved giving Delaney a bath, Delaney on the other hand didn't really like it.
