A Few Sites to See

 July 13, 2013
Today we got up and drove 3 hours to Nauvoo, IL where we met our friends Matt and Leslie and their family.  We first stopped at Carthage Jail, which is where the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother brother Hyrum were martyred.  It was very beautiful, and there was a wonderful spirit that we felt while we were there.  It was great to be able to talk to our kids about what happened at these places and about how they felt while they were there.  I am very excited that we have had chances to see all these wonderful church historic sites.  This is our last summer here in Columbia before we move and we wanted to get to see them.  We wanted to see the pageant before I got to big, 35 weeks pregnant was good.

Where Addy's finger is there is a bullet hole from when men tried to push through the door to get Joseph Smith.
This is the window where Joseph Smith was shot and killed and then he fell through the window to the ground.

The top window is where Joseph Smith fell out of.
After our tour we drove 20 minutes to Nauvoo and went to see all the different things there.  We played with things that the pioneers would have played with.
Right after I took this picture of the kids and Will on the stilts, Boston's stilts fell and hit poor Addy in the head.

The kids learned how to make pots and also rope, we visited a bakery, and the brickyard.

We went to a blacksmith shop and learned how they made wagon wheels and then they gave each of us these nails that they had molded into rings for us.

 Addy's cool ring
As we walked down town there was this very neat statue of Joseph so Boston and Miles stood by him.
This is the Nauvoo Temple, Addy was not very excited that we had to take another photo.

This is in the front of the Temple on the steps

It was such a beautiful Temple, I would love to have gone through it, maybe next time.
While we walked down main street we found The Fudge Factory, where we each got a yummy treat.  Me and Addy got some rocky road fudge, Will got chocolate covered cinnamon bears, and the boys got chocolate covered marshmallows.  It was so good!

Right before the Nauvoo Pageant they had all these things that you could do.  When we first walked in they had all these bagpipers playing and it was so cool to hear.
These are some of the actors that played in the pageant.
We got to play some more games that the pioneers played.  Boston really liked chasing the wheel around with the stick.

From our seats we could see the Temple in the background, and at the end they lit up the Temple and it was very neat.
